How It All Started

In December 2013, WordServe was contacted through our adopted school, Huggins Elementary, about a family in need of major home repairs. The family had eight children, four of whom attended Huggins. After meeting with school leaders, counselors, and other city officials, WordServe decided to commit to rebuild this house and make all the necessary repairs so that the family could return to their home.

After an entire year of prayers, love and hard work the house was occupied. Move-in day was described as “Simply AMAZING. Holy. Truly beyond words.” Thank you to everyone that had a hand in this transformation, you have truly done God’s work. Since 2013, WordServe Church has complete two Habitat for Huggins houses.

Check out these videos from our first two houses and prepare to be moved and motivated by how God can make life different!

Habitat House 3

We have completed the rebuild of our third home in partnership with Zion Chapel Baptist Church. This opportunity was unique in that the property has multiple homes and generations of the family. The house is owned by the grandparents, who are cared for by one of their daughters. She also lives on the property and is the care taker of many! More than 12 students ranging from pre-K to high school live on the property with their families have been impacted by the rebuild of this home. Both grandparents are disabled and the home has been designed to fit their needs. We are excited to serve this multi-generational close-knit family. The new home is not only safe, protected from the elements and has reliable plumbing but one for family dinners, homework time, and many celebrations to come! Many different organizations in the community have played a role in bringing this home to completion. It has taken skilled workers for much of the construction, but it has also taken people willing to serve through clean-up, painting, prayer, food for the workers, and many other ways that God has lead people to serve.
